Post-9/11 Curriculum

Lesson 1: What Happened on 9/11?
Students will learn key facts to understand what happened on September 11, 2001. The learning will be acquired through teacher instruction, short documentary clips, maps, and the 9/11 Memorial website.

Lesson 2: Minnesotans on 9/11
Students will learn about 9/11 through the eyes of five Minnesotans whose lives were dramatically changed by their experience on that day or its aftermath.

Lesson 3: “Boots on the Ground”
Students will learn how the events of September 11th, 2001 shaped the work and career experiences of a variety of Minnesotans. Students will hear stories of deployment, enlistment and reenlistment, and also stories of people who served stateside.

Lesson 4: “The Long War”
In this lesson, students will learn how Minnesotans and their families were challenged by multiple deployments, altered career paths and the physical and emotional toll of combat and war.

Lesson 5: Remembrance and Legacy
Students will be able to discuss the impact of 9/11 upon the lives of the featured Minnesotans. As an extended objective - with further classroom instruction - students will discuss and draw conclusions about the continued legacy of 9/11 regarding U.S. domestic and foreign policy.
